Writing Task – 1 (A Letter)

You should spend 20 minutes on this task

You stayed at a hotel to attend a company meeting and you were dissatisfied with your stay. Write a letter to the meeting organizer. In your letter:

• Provide the details of your meeting
• Explain what you were dissatisfied with
• Suggest what the hotel should do to resolve the issue>

Write at least 150 words, (You do NOT need to write any addresses).

Sample Answer

Dear Sir,

I am writing this letter regarding my recent meeting experience at the Tahj Hotel, which was booked by you.

I was assigned to lead a meeting with silent owners on the 17th of July. The meeting was about the company’s new regulations. You sent an email with all details of the meetings including the place, discussion topics and a list of people who have been invited to a meeting.

Although all the candidates arrived on time with full enthusiasm, there were numerous issues we encountered in the hotel. Firstly, the sound system was working in the conference room, which delayed our meeting by 30 minutes. Secondly, the Wi-Fi facility was not running smoothly, which made our presentation ineffective. Lastly, they charged a high food price, more than our budget.

All in all, it was an awkward experience for all attendees. All these issues can be avoided by taking a few preliminary cautions. There should be an in-depth enquiry about the sound system and Wi-Fi quality during booking. Apart from this, the prices of food can be negotiated in advance.

In many countries nowadays traditional customs are being lost. Why this is happening? How could schools and parents help to keep them alive?  

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Sample Answer

These days, a frightening number of countries are either losing their customs and rituals completely or very quickly. This could be due to a variety of factors, including the influence of other parts of the world, but not before elders and educational institutions provided a helping hand. This essay provides a thorough analysis of both.

The current era is one of globalization, with information flowing across cultural boundaries and containing a wide variety of information. The Tomaticana, a well-known celebration in Spain, is extensively observed in nations like India. As a result, the indigenous Holi festival—which was previously only observed in a few colonies—is disappearing from large parts of India. Moreover, many celebrities and organizations like PETA are outspoken about the harmful effects of the hazardous chemicals used in Holi paints, which not only endanger human life but also have a terrible impact on animal life. The young people follow these well-known people mindlessly, straying from their own cultural roots and failing to understand why they are even here.

Nonetheless, it has been determined that a parent serving as a child’s first teacher is responsible for teaching the moral and cultural lessons concealed in a custom such as Holi, which is commemorated as the rescue of Prahlad, a very pure and innocent soul, from the clutches of a demonic woman. Similarly, folktales and story enactments can be organized by schools to aid in spreading the act’s hidden meaning. For example, a play narrating the story of Prahlad and the devil lady could be scheduled, allowing students to understand the significance of the celebration instead of viewing it as a pointless custom.

In summary, customs serve as evidence of a civilization’s existence and should be preserved to highlight the depth of a nation’s past. Therefore, by working together, parents and schools can practically make this happen.
