Writing Task 1

The graph below shows the percentage of tourists who used various modes of transport within a particular country between 1989 and 2009. Each tourist may have used multiple modes of transport.

Sample Answer

The line graph depicts the percentage of tourists who travelled by different modes of transportation in a specific country between year 1989 and 2009. Data calibration has been done in percentage.

In an overview, it is evident that the proportion of visitors using various modes of transport has increased over the past years, with the exception of car and bus users.

The proportion of tourists who travelled by car was highest at 60% in 1989, while the proportion of tourists who travelled by car was lowest at about 25%. The proportion of visitors who travelled by air increased significantly, rising from about 25% to slightly over 60%. In 1989, 55% of tourists travelled by bus, which is more than twice as many as those who travelled by car or aeroplane.

A 30 % difference can be seen in the transportation modes of Ferry and Coach in the year 2000. The trend displayed was almost similar for Ferry and Coach from the initial year to the final year.

Some people believe that people living in the twenty-first century have better standard of living as compared to previous centuries. To what extend do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Even though 21st-century shoppers have more options and conveniences than ever thanks to technology, it’s debatable whether or not modern people live better lives than their forebears. I’ll explain why our way of life is superior to that of our ancestors in this essay.

First of all, inventions are all around the world and have completely changed the way people live in the modern world. Human lives have been greatly improved, and made more dynamic, and made safer by technology. In the past, there was a greater prevalence of illnesses like viruses and serious injuries, and traditional farming techniques were unwilling to cope with the increasing need for food. Nevertheless, people are now more capable of handling the difficulties they encounter thanks to developments in a number of industries, including automation, digitalization, and medicine. For example, automated cars— which were previously limited to science fiction—are now a reality. Administrative procedures have been made more efficient through digitization, and vaccinations against dangerous viruses like COVID-19 have been created. Additionally, since people have more free time, they can enjoy more entertainment options like 3D movies and Netflix.

On the paradoxical side, the painful lessons learned from past tragedies have made us realise how important freedom, equality, and justice are. Women were prohibited from voting as citizens and working to support one another hundreds of years ago. African Americans also endured segregation laws that restricted their access to employment and education, treated them like commodities, and sold them as slaves at auction. Even though there continues to be prejudice and bias against people on the basis of their gender identity and colour, they have succeeded in making great progress towards creating a more accepting and peaceful world.

In conclusion, people should be grateful for what earlier generations have done to make the world a better place for us to live in, even though it is acknowledged that humans in the twenty-first century still face new challenges.
