WRITING TASK 1

The bar chart below shows the numbers of seals, whales and dolphins recorded in the Strait of Hormuz from 2006 to 2018.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Write at least 150 words (You should spend 20 minutes on this task).

Sample Answer

The bar chart compares the number of seals, whales, and dolphins in the Strait of Hormuz in 2006, 2010, 2014, and 2018. In 2006, seals had the highest population at about 43, followed by whales at nearly 25, and dolphins at around 18. By 2010, the seal population fell to about 27, while whale numbers rose slightly to 28, making them the largest group. Dolphins also increased to roughly 25. In 2014, the number of seals grew again to about 34, but whales dropped to around 22. Dolphins continued to rise, reaching about 32. By 2018, dolphins became the most numerous species, with a sharp increase to around 52. Seals also went up to about 44, while whales remained lower at roughly 29. In summary, seals showed ups and downs but ended with growth, whales showed a small overall decline, and dolphins increased steadily throughout the years.

The expansion of multinational companies and increase in globalisation produce positive effects for everyone.

To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

The growth of multinational companies and globalisation has changed the world in many ways. I believe they bring both advantages and disadvantages.

On the positive side, multinational companies create jobs in many countries, especially in poorer nations where work is hard to find. They also bring new technology, ideas, and products, which can improve living standards. Global trade allows people to buy goods from different countries at lower prices, giving more choice to consumers.

However, there are also problems. Some companies pay low wages and provide poor working conditions, especially in developing countries. They may also damage the environment. In addition, small local businesses often cannot compete with large international brands. Globalisation can also make cultures more similar, which may reduce cultural diversity.

In conclusion, multinational companies and globalisation can help economies grow, but they do not benefit everyone equally. Governments should make rules to protect workers, the environment, and local culture.
