WRITING TASK 1

The chart below shows the amount of waste that was disposed of via landfill, burning, and dumping at sea in a European country between 2005 and 2008.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The bar chart shows how waste was managed in a European country from 2005 to 2008 using three methods: landfill, burning, and dumping at sea. In 2005, landfill was the most common method, with around 1800 million tonnes of waste. However, the use of landfills dropped each year. It fell to about 1200 million tonnes in 2006, then to 900 million tonnes in 2007, and finally to around 600 million tonnes in 2008. This shows that the country reduced its use of landfills over time. Burning was the second method used. In 2005 and 2006, around 500 to 600 million tonnes of waste were burned. The amount increased in 2007 to about 700 million tonnes and rose again in 2008 to around 850 million tonnes, making it the most popular method by the end of the period. Dumping at sea remained mostly steady. In 2005, it was around 600 million tonnes. It slightly increased in 2006 and 2007 and then dropped a little in 2008, but overall it did not change much. In conclusion, the country reduced landfill use while increasing burning. Dumping at sea stayed at about the same level. This may show an effort to use cleaner or more controlled methods to manage waste.

In every country, there are driving laws to ensure road safety. Some people, however, still break these laws, such as by speeding or using mobile phones while driving.

Every country has driving rules to keep the roads safe. These include rules like not using mobile phones while driving and not driving too fast. Still, some people break these rules.
